Album Review: Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - Texas Sun

Image
Texas Sun is a  collaborative   studio ep by American trio Khruangbin featuring Leon Bridges, it was released on February 7, 2020, The collaboration between these two is what music dreams are made of,  something cool and fresh with a little retro-funk-soul production.   I  checked this out because I dig Leon Bridge's  previous album's , but I was unfamiliar with Khruangbin before hearing Texas Sun, really glad that this turned me on to those musicians because their sound really hits the spot for me.  Leon seems to go deeper this time around. He has really learned his way around a song. What was essentially an  approximation  of a Sam Cooke/ Marvin Gaye type of balladeer,  a breath of fresh air for classic soul and R&B,  Leon has come into his own style and really sounds like his own artist now. And also khruangbin did an amazing job with all the musical arrangments, I rate this album solid 10/10.  KhruangBin · Texas Sun

Album Review: Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

Image
Punisher is the second full-length studio album by indie rock emo folk musician Phoebe Bridgers, it was released on June  18, 2020.    Punisher offers up a lot of the same that her debut album did as far as songwriting. Songs are very sensitive, personal trauma, and confessional bordering on "Diary of a teen girl" style melodrama piece. Unfortunately, many of the tracks suffer from tacky music overproduction. The subtle, ethereal emo folk elements in the production are nice and compliment the songs well. The musical arrangements are amazing, serene piano, folky guitar riffs &  violin,  I like the eerie feel and simplicity of garden track but for the most part, these songs are solid. The problem with this musician for me is that every song melody sound really similar.   Phoebe's lyrics are  bright  and have a lot of personality. I rate this album solid decent 8/10.   Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers

Album Review: Charles Irwin- Beach Lake Park

Image
Beach Lake Park is the debut full-length album by Tampa indie rock band Charles Irwin, It was released on July 5, 2019, Beach Lake Park is the most cohesive record from 2019, This band is criminally underrated. Not a single bad song, and everyone worth listening to again and again. Thanks to the homies, the existential dread in which I live every day of my life is kept further at bay. A wonderful  album to go back and  admire  the a esthetics , Charles Irwin is a force to be reckoned with. Amazing songwriting lyrics and dreamy  melodies so  exquisite ,  Fantastic Indie music to chill out with; and if you're in a sensitive place when it comes to a relationship, this may resonate with you well. Charles Irwin is a gem from modern indie underground Tampa music scene, It's a collection of driven bedroom pop, garage indie rock. Awesome band to see live as well, I highly recommend this record who enjoy laidback indie rock music, I rate this record 10/10.  beach lake park by charles

Album Review: Blu & Exile - Miles

Image
Miles is the third full-length studio album by hip hop duo Blu & Exile, It was released on July 17, 2020,  This album is amazing and has some of the best rapping I’ve ever heard and the concept of this album is  sensational .  I listened to this album after hearing some good things about it from online resources and recommendations from other hip hop music listeners, Individually or as a duo these guys work so hard to put out beautiful art, and it pays off. Exile's production never disappoints, and the diverse styles perfectly complement Blu's poetry, They prove they're at the top of the mountain, Blu's  contemplative  storytelling drew immediate comparisons to Chicago rapper Common, a rapper who Blu was highly influenced by. I highly recommend this record, who loves underground hip hop can  admire the aesthetics &  an original  story  you can relate  to , I rate this album 10/10.   Miles by Blu & Exile

Album Review: Silvia Tarozzi - Mi specchio e rifletto

Image
Mi specchio e rifletto is the second full-length studio album by Italian electronic classical musician Silvia Tarozzi, It was released on August 28, 2020. This album is incredible, atmospheric & distinctive.  There's a  cinematic   approach in this entire record, it has a nice mixture of different music genres, prog, classical , jazz, electronic & experimental combination, etc.  This theme feels even more  essential  now in a time where  day-to-day  life is  progressively  more complex and  erratic , and Silvia Tarozzi haunting tunes that blend u ncanny  classical  concept  with beautiful Italian vocals remind me of the magic beauty drifting away and Mi specchio e rifletto feels really poetic &  sincerely  autobiographical, listening to music from a different  mother tongue  it can t rigger interest in learning a new l anguage & connect with the universe, I highly recommend this record to anyone who  appreciates music, I rate this album 10/10.  Mi specchio e rifl

Album Review: Angel Olsen- Whole New Mess

Image
Whole New Mess is the fifth full-length studio album by Indie singer Angel Olsen, It was released on August 28, 2020, This brand new album Angel Olsen went back to her folk roots,  atmospheric, simple folky guitar progression and very similar to her early work, Her balladry is intelligent without pretension, you can hear the influence of Leonard Cohen in some  songs but you can also hear a little Roy Orbison  as well, Her 2019 album All Mirror is a  completely  different record, more arranged intimate  baroque pop   approach.  Beautiful haunting yodel voice brings to mind empty prairies and lonely hearts. It really gets under your skin, as the most emotional kind of singing range.  This is a great, unique album. There's a  meaningful  message in every song,  Definitely deserves repeated listens, after which these aching melodies are stuck in your head forever.    I highly recommend this amazing record to anyone who  enthusiastic and loves the raw folk ambience, I rate this album 10

Album Review: Juniore - Un Deux Trois

Image
Un Deux Trois is the second full-length studio album by French pop band Juniore, it was released on  February 28, 2020, The group main musical style is influenced by the music of 60s decade, Their music is mixed of modern indie pop with elements of vintage French pop, groovy bassline, surf guitar riff, clean snap drums, organ and the vocals is cross between Francoise Hardy and France Gall,  The songs have cinematographic features that immediately immerse us in a sonic and visual universe far from our daily lives. T his record is mesmerizing and a real french gem for our listening ears,  It's an  excellently,  dynamic set of tracks but surf psych nostalgic sound, I highly recommend this album if you love retro vintage  yé-yé music genre , it  will likely leave a lasting impression on anyone who appreciates heartbreaking atmospheric music sung in French, T o listen and enjoy without moderation, I rate this album 10/10.   UN DEUX TROIS by Juniore

Album Review: Cornershop - England is a Garden

Image
England is a garden is the ninth full-length studio album by British rock band Cornershop, it was released on March 6, 2020.  The opening track "St. Marie Under Canon" is a complete  catchy earworm  of a tune, and mixes genres like good fusion pot .  No Rock Save in Rock n Roll" revisits the Glam Rock genre stomp of T Rex.   What a pleasure to discover this new record. And even cooler to discover that it's amazing,  I found this by accident on youtube, Ironic that we have all the music at our fingertips now, and I had no idea this existed.  i t's  extremely  poppy, with some loud fuzzy guitars riffs and more than a few interesting hooks and a  fusion of  musical  influences, experimentation, and excellent songwriting add up to a sound all of their own, I highly recommend this record, Cornershop's  music is a f usion  of Indian music , indie rock , alternative dance, If you like this music, this band is influenced by  Velvet Underground, The Hollies, The Kink

Album Review: Benny Sings - City Pop

Image
City Pop is the eighth full-length studio album by Dutch pop musician Benny Sings, It was released on February 22, 2019,  The songs are ambiguous, simple, almost childlike in their sing-songy presentation. However, the songs belie a real sophistication, engaging and relatable lyrics, fantastic melodies, great arrangements, clean production, Benny’s disarmingly expressive vocal style. A really great album. " City Pop” is a master’s class in pop music song-crafting, appealing on so many levels and  modern pop tracks about love and sweet moments in relationships. Each listen takes you deeper into the many pleasures on the album, I highly recommend this record,  in terms of his musical taste, with a strong ascendancy  of pop and r&b, he also  collaborated with Rex Orange County on Loving is Easy huge indie hit in 2017, Benny worked with other musicians as well, including Mayer Hawthorne, Rex Orange County, and Goldlink.  he toured the world with Mayer Hawthorne a few years ago, et

Album Review: Steve Lacy - Apollo XXI

Image
Apollo XXI is the debut album by R&B musician Steve Lacy, It was released on May 24, 2019. A solid body of work and I'm proud that we have a sensational musician like Steve Lacy in this generation, each track brings back some type of good nostalgic memory, very soothing summertime album, M usic like this helps restore my faith in the notion that good,  relaxing, funky, soulful; words I would use to describe this album, t hat deserves more commercial success, a  contemplative combination of R&B, hip-hop, & lo-fi pop but feels hesitant to claim the media attention, also this record  heavily influenced by Prince early projects and the way he mixes amazing riffs on the guitar with a lot of emotions in his voice is so satisfying and smooth, t he soul of the lyrics and poetry brings me to emotional state, you put your heart and soul and intuition into this record, I highly recommend this incredible album, to experience authenticity from beginning to end, I rate this album 1

Album Review: Haim - Women in Music Pt. lll

Image
Women in Music Pt. lll is the third studio album by pop indie rock band Haim, it was released on June 26, 2020,   this album is  refinement , textured, pop with to-die-for  consonance  and melodies. It's not just that the Haim sisters are skilled musicians, and that they have amazing chemistry with each other, it's that they have the talent and skill to craft layered songs that still sound bright and clean while being ridiculously catchy. Every song has a  distinctive  character but still sounds cohesive with the rest of the record.   Pop-rock music is in their DNA,  cutting their teeth on classic rock in a band with their parents, the aptly named, ' Rockingham'.    Their parents much have recognized their talents early and  obviously did a great job nurturing them,  The sister-act rock band Haim are from the sunny Los Angeles, and you can almost feel the sunshine seeping through the album as well, I recommend this record, if you like fun indie pop-rock music, i rate th

Image
No Pressure is the sixth album by American Rapper Logic, it was released on July 16, 2020, he announced on his Twitter account, he retiring from music because of the birth of his newborn son. This new record logic is returning to his hip-hop roots, a nd this has got to be Logic's best album out of his entire discography catalog, it's hard to believe it'll be his last.  Just an overall spectacular album. Album Review: Riki- Riki

Image
Riki is the first debut album by American synthpop Riki, It was released on February 14, 2020. Amazing album, Top-notch 80's inspired new wave/synthpop with just the ethical amount of goth, Ideal music soundtrack for hot summer nights, and neon city lights.  This album will provoke you, it's exciting. The sounds were mixed so that the senses  intensify  their delightful brill sensations,   Riki  traverses   bravery , physicality, and romance across eight timeless synth-pop/new wave  canticles ,  every  segment  from the  resonant  to the lead is distinctive and will get inside your mind and the vocals are super angelic and dreamy,  a p erfect aesthetic, she captures the quintessence and this artist is influenced by nostalgic synthpop new wave groups & musicians like Depeche mode, Pat Benatar, Madonna, Bananarama & Xmal Deutschland and also the spirit of the 80s obscure Italo-disco genre as well, but I genuinely appreciate the artistry on display, I highly recommend thi

Album Review: Grossman Ensemble - Fountain of Time

Image
Fountain of Time is a brand new classical debut record by classical supergroup Grossman Ensemble, It was released on  August 21, 2020,  Outstanding  modern  classical  album, Fountain Of Time is a   recording that I find myself continually revisiting, v ery contemporary and easy to listen to as background or just relaxing alone and It  takes you on a musical journey unlike you have ever heard before, T hese pieces were very diverse and were all extraordinary when the musical instruments come in is so  exquisite, v ery relaxing, meditative music, beautifully played. Album Review: The Lemon Twigs- Songs for the General Public

Image
Songs for the General Public is the third studio album by American rock band The Lemon Twigs, It was released on August 21, 2020, The intention in "Songs for the General Public" record are innovative, lush and special, but the 12 tracks are brilliant with an amazing arrangement,  bolstered by the addition  of electric organ, guitar, drums, bass,  violin & harmonica. the  artistry  in the band deserves any and all attention from the music world,  I love all the harmony vocals and the future is looking good for The Lemon Twigs,  being amazing to feel so enthusiastic about a band you discover later in life, E xcellent band with a sophisticated talented sound. We were pleasantly surprised by this band. If you like Todd R undgren , Billy Joel, Rolling Stones, and maybe even Foxygen, you will likely enjoy this music.   I t is something very different from what can be seen in the other albums of this band. B ut everything these guys do seems very interesting to me, t hey know ho

Album Review: Kadhja Bonet -The Visitor

Image
The Visitor is the debut studio album by American soul singer Kadhja Bonet, It was released on October 21, 2016.  This album is the most incredible music piece,  a nd h er music is the most relaxing and beautiful thing that's made in this modern era,  each song is like a ghost from the past that brings back emotions and yet feels new again.  Timeless psychedelic  soul, classical, folk-pop, it  combines a  diversity  of musical influences,  70s arrangements, and  haunting  angelic  serene vocals, s he reminds me of Minnie Riperton, a similar voice range and neo-retro sensibility.  Full of soulful lyrics, her sound is amazing,  The lyrics of every song tell a story, and the stories span a variety of  genuine  heartfelt themes,  and I was blown away when i discovered this record,  the song  Fairweather Friend  would pop up from time to time on my music playlist, but then I heard  Honeycomb  and I became obsessed with tracking down the album. I'm so glad I did; just wish it hadn

Album Review: Durand Jones & The Indications - American Love Call

Image
American Love Call is the second studio album by R&B/Soul Group Durand Jones & The Indications, It was released on March 1, 2019,  This has got to be one of the finest album recordings in today's modern music,  not one but two vocalists put this band in a league of their own.  The drummer has such a great falsetto range, it really does give one the feeling of some the finer vintage R&B tunes from the sixties and early seventies. The horns and backing rhythm section are spectacular, such a full sound with every song having it's own unique tempo and  ambiance . All in all a fantastic record from a group that has become in  hebdomadal  rotation for me.  A bit more mellow than their first record which just blew me away. I felt some hints of Al Green & Temptations from the singer's voice and I definitely recommend this album, If you like soulful music. I rate this album 10/10.  Durand Jones & The Indications · American Love Call

Album Review: Black Marble - I Must Be Living Twice.

Image
I Must Be Living Twice is a brand new ep by American synthpop music project Black Marble, it was released on August 14, 2020. the excellent album seems to me to complement very well, you feel that great feeling of peace. this record departs from it's influences in a rich and emotionally thrilling manner, it  provides the right blend of new wave and synthpop,   Intensely pensive lyrics and the sometimes stark musical arrangements are amazing when overlaid with vocals of an obscured dream-like quality sound. black marble  captures a lot of the imagination with their music and great tunes to just dance to, the five songs from the ep are music covers from different musicians,  but really stands out on their own terms,  Overall I highly recommend it, If you like early 80s synthpop music, this band is influenced by OMD, Depeche Mode & Motorama, it can teleport you back from that nostalgic decade,  I rate this album 10/10.  I Must Be Living Twice by Black Marble

Album Review: Natalia LaFourcade- Un Canto por México, Vol. 1

Image
Un Canto por Mexico, Vol. 1 is the ninth studio album by Mexican Singer-Songwriter Natalia LaFourcade, it was released on  February 8, 2020. This music reaches into your soul and holds it there until the very last note, what an amazing album,  Natalia is one of the great treasures of our time, y ou can tell the strong emotion in her voice, This album is c lassified as  Mariachi  music because she happens to sing in Spanish. Singer/songwriter/band leader. She is the real deal.  Un canto por Mexico   sustain  this main focus on Latin music with a  unique  attentiveness  to her native homeland music,  Wonderful work, more into the folklore of Mexico which makes it feel like a hug to my heart, the musical instruments and voice are important rather than overworking the track  and I highly recommend it, I rate this 10/10.

Album Review: Caleb Landry Jones - The Mother Stone

Image
The Mother Stone is the debut album by Hollywood actor and musician  Caleb Landry Jones, It was released on May 1, 2020. An absolutely tremendous baroque psychedelic rock album, it's fun and cinematic and after an hour's worth of timeless music, v ery ambitious songs with brilliant  orchestra l   arrangements, the 60s & 70's inspiration but without the defaults of this decade. Celeb's manage to  experiment with different melodies, He wrote all the tracks on the album and play all the musical instruments. Every song is great and different which makes this album well-produced, Caleb Landry Jones is influenced by Moody Blues, Frank Zappa, Syd Barrett & The Beatles, I  definitely recommend this project because it can change your life, if you enjoy the baroque psychedelic rock genre, please give it a listen and it's also brand new music, I rate this album 9/10. The Mother Stone by Caleb Landry Jones

Album Review: Automatic- Signal

Image
Signal is the debut studio album by American post-punk group Automatic, it was released on September 27, 2019. What an  amazing minimal post-punk album, which grows on you the more you listen to it. There is something intense and driving about the music, the energy it whisks out is full of exuberance and surprise when contrasted with the lyrics which are anti-sentimental, and personal. There's just so much bliss in the darkness, and it's driving h ypnotic  bass and drums, with perfect  experimental  synth accents. Definitely, a band to watch live , t he band first met while  involved  in Los Angeles DIY music scene and started jamming together in 2017. Over the past year, they have become a complete three-piece band,   The post-punk band is  influenced by NEU, ESG & Broadcast, but it penetrates the entire record and each song is compact and their visuals too, the quality of the sound that band created made a huge impact, all the songs got a really nice upbeat minimal melody

Album Review: Matthew Tavares & Leland Whitty -Visions

Image
Visions is a brand new jazz collaborative record from co-founder, BadBadNotGood  keyboardist  Matthew Tavares, and his former BadBadNotGood Bandmate Saxophonist  Leland Whitty. It was released on March 20, 2020. I t's an incredible album, It has beautiful warm avant- grade jazz dynamic arrangments, Your not sure what you are about to get next. This certainly makes this album a pleasure to listen to because every track becomes a different scene, a unique moment, and can satisfy a variety of moods.  Easily one of the best albums I've listened to in a long time and  also t heir creativity in putting these wonderful pieces together .  I got some sweet Miles Davis and J ohn Coltrane vibes from this album,   If you are looking for something different and are interested in Jazz with an experimental twist you definitely need to check these guys out, I highly recommend it and  I rate this album 10/10.  Visions by Matthew Tavares & Leland Whitty

Album Review: Washed Out- Purple Noon

Image
Purple Moon is the fourth studio album by American singer Washed out, it was released on August 7, 2020. The new album Purple Noon didn't really do much for me as Greene's other albums have, the first three songs are pretty solid, I think Too Late is probably the best track on the album, I did enjoy the  relaxing euphoric  instrumental production, However, I felt like most of the tracks, especially in the middle of the record all sounded the same melodically repetitive  and didn't really go anywhere and some did get me head bopping, Especially Don't Go and Haunt, that he was trying to get back to his old sound from his previous work, I think he may have tried to hard though,  I rate this album 6/10. Purple Noon by Washed Out

Album Review: Drab Majesty - Modern Mirror

Image
Modern Mirror is the third album by American darkwave band Drab Majesty, it was released on July 12, 2019.  Modern Mirror is more upbeat than The Demonstration but very much in the same vein with a similar theme and very danceable .   Drab Majesty is rooted in the early 80s  approach , but the more sophisticated way. In addition, there is a big shot of darkness in the form of Darkwave and Gothic Rock.   Overall this is a more straightforward composition, and in some ways even more accessible than "The Demonstration". I'll be listening to this record for a long time and it's also a great album for nighttime driving and those moments that you crave honest music. Each song tells a piece of the story, which darkwave listeners can relate too, I  rate this album 10/10.  Modern Mirror by DRAB MAJESTY

Album Review: Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?

Image
What's Your Pleasure? is the fourth studio album by English pop singer Jessie Ware, Featuring twelve songs that mainly focus genres like Disco & Pop .   I feel like this album takes me back to another decade and However, it still sounds very modern, from start to finish, it's very cohesive and each track flows magically to the next. I love the dance/disco sound she embraced with this album. it's very fitting because this sound compliments her beautiful voice in every way, shape, and form.  Did not expect a dance disco-pop record to have such great melodies and it's full of bangers. I rate this album 10/10.

Album Review: Tame Impala - The Slow Rush

Image
The Slow Rush is the fourth studio album by Australian music project Tame Impala, the album was released on February 14, 2020, The first lead single from the record, Borderline was released on April 12, 2020,  This album initially hit me as "this sounds too poppy and too much like Currents" on the first 3 listens. I found Tame Impala after their 1st album dropped and absolutely fell in love with the idea of John Lennon creating a psychedelic indie rock album,  but to me is just disco music. Not the psychedelic prog that I expected.   Not as good as lonerism or Innerspeaker, maybe 4 good songs, the rest of the songs are disappointing. I rate this album 6/10.

Album Review: Michael Seyer - Bad Bonez

Album Review: Tops - I Feel Alive

Image
I  Feel Alive  is the fourth studio album by Canadian indie pop-rock band, TOPS . It was released on April 3, 2020, Wow, such a great record. Lead vocalist Jane Penny's voice is  transcendent and dreamy.  The composition is subtle yet flawlessly punctuates the melodies, these tracks will transport  you somewhere mellow,  This album has the rare quality of feeling personal and yet universal, of the moment and yet echoing the past life. It  will catch your ears with their vintage pop sensibilities,  There are plenty of upbeat energetic songs that are instantly likable,    I can easily listen to the whole album front to back without any particularly weak tracks that need to be skipped, I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves indie rock genre,  I rate this album 10/10. Image
3.15.20  is the fourth studio album by American rapper Donald G lover , under his stage name Childish Gambino, It was released on March 22, 2020. H is music soars and lifts. From the first track to the last it tells a  coherent  story and sets an entire mood. At times he channels Prince and Often has an 80’s timeless  groove,  I listen to this record like five times because I wasn't really feeling it at first, but there's a good amount of songs that I really enjoyed. It's an okay album definitely not Gambino's best work, it could have been better. I rate this album 7/10.

Album Review: Chicano Batman - Invisible People

Image
Invisible People is the fourth album by band Chicano Batman. it was released on May 1, 2020. Nothing but good vibes and good health for Chicano Batman, so this creation keeps the rhythm going, Groovy, funky, fuzzy, this album is a wonderful treat in the current world of so much lousy, generic, bland music. While this album doesn't totally convey how great Chicano Batman sounds live, but I really  appreciate the art and meaningful lyrics in this record. I rate this album 9/10. Invisible People by Chicano Batman

Image
Symphonie Pacifique released on July 3, 2020 .  New Album from the UK leading jazz pianist & composer name Greg Foat,   It’s an album, it flows, it’s dynamic, well-paced, love all the songs,  some distortion especially on the piano at times. An absolutely stunning piece of Jazz music.  Perhaps the record of the year. It leaves a really calm serene vibe. If you like weather report or badbadnotgood, I think you might like this jazz composition. I highly recommend this recod, check it out. I rate this album 10/10. Symphonie Pacifique by Greg Foat

Album Review: Twin Tribes - Ceremony

Image
Ceremony is the second studio album by Darkwave Brownsville , Texas  Duo, Twin Tribes. The album was released on December 13, 2019. The first single Heart & Feather off of the second studio album titled "Ceremony". T his new album is practically flawless, Dare I say, it is 'mature' and full-bodied in resonate and atmosphere. To my ears, an exquisite combination of post-punk, coldwave, and darkwave. In fact, I would say it transcends there genre labels and a great collection of songs. Highly recommend, don't sleep on this composition. Their Music is Haunting,  it's darker, deeper in pitch and melancholy it feels less cheesy, more serious & sincere like it comes from a heart that's dead but still beating. I rate this album 10/10. Album Review: Cate Le Bon - Reward

Image
Reward is the fifth studio album by Welsh musician Cate Le Bon, It was released on May 24, 2019. Day matter is the first single released on March 20, 2019. Very relatable emotionally and lovely to listen to on so many levels. Sounds like Astrud Gilberto switched to alternative art pop with a nice mixture of Berlin Bowie trilogy. Great tunes and insistent hooks that stay fresh after many plays. Really Emotive for something so leftfield & underrated, I had high expectations at first, but I started to enjoy it more, a deep sense of commitment to art, and compelling delivery, C ate Le Bon knows the rules of rock well enough to break them with style.  I highly recommend this record,  I rate this album 10/10.
