Album Review: Riki - Gold

Image
Gold is the second full-length album by American musician Riki, it was released on November 26, 2021, New romantic Musician Riki returned with a new record,  Riki creates an evocative mood-piece that taps into all those most elegant and effortlessly 'cool' of 80s pop sounds; at once slow-dancing in a grand costume party.  meet sophisti/new-romantic flourishes so moody.  I don't see how this lacks 'spirit', many tracks are pretty wistful. she's just got a subtle and sometimes elusive presence/approach with the vocals,  I can find a few positives about every album I listen to, but nothing comes to mind here. The best songs are the tolerable ones, and that's all you'll find of value here. and w ith her cover of a decades-old Spanish hit, she invokes the ghost of a forgotten pop idol ('Porque te vas'). Solid mature songwriting,  overall  this album got a really nice  nostalgic vintage production and I rate this record 8/10 solid album. Gold by Riki

Album Review: Curtis Harding - If Words Were Flowers

Image
If Words Were Flowers is the third studio full-length album by American soul r&b singer  Curtis Harding, it was released on November 5, 2021,  An underrated release of 2021.  Curtis Harding’s latest effort is a really solid retro-soul record with plenty of uplifting sentiments, good hooks, and some great instrumentation. This album shines when it plays within its grounds, the straight-up soul cuts are really well made, and the more psychedelic, jazzy stuff ranges from hypnotizing to sensual, and often both at once. Spacey drum grooves are stitched together with a range of guitars, synths, and horns on these tracks to create something that’s loose enough to get lost in but interesting enough to keep everything grounded and groovy,   Curtis knows how to handle everything well.  An interesting combination that grows on me with each listen, Class act. I rate this album 10/10. If Words Were Flowers by Curtis Harding

Album Review: Helado Negro - Far In

Image
Far in is the  seventh studio full-length album by American musician Helado Nergo, it was released on October 22, 2021,  Helado Negro has a talent to make easy listening music not just background noise. Negro has a beautifully soothing singing voice that you can hear on every track. His voice, though, is enhanced by the simple yet beautiful instrumentals. His guitar plays a big role on every track  but sounds especially wonderful in the more atmospheric  like Wake Up Tomorrow and Thank You For Forever.  And it also  has the ability to relax and chill you out but at the same time bop with high energy. Hard zone to find but Helado did it. Immensely enjoyable in any setting.  But it's a delightful listen of chillness. I n the end, I really came to enjoy it, and had me looking forward to hearing more. I rate this album 10/10.  Far In by Helado Negro

Album Review: Launderette- Dressing for Pleasure

Image
Dressing for Pleasure is the debut studio extended play by Retrofuturist New Wave band Launderette, it was released on July 19, 2021,  Modern New wave band from Portland is bringing back the 80s nostalgic, Maybe it's just me but vocally speaking the band sounds a lot like the B-52s to me, this record is raw energy the amount of echolalia repetition   throughout the record This music is not gloomy enough but it's a dancy punky minimal synth masterpiece, It is so cool though. Modern underground brilliance that makes my music spirit drift away, it's on a music loop, the whole aesthetic is mind-blowing overwhelmingly impressive, the vocals are split amongst the band members and it's only 5 tracks, that makes every composition really fascinating that's a huge commitment to work together create something really special, they kind of have a similar tempo, highly recommended, if you like this type of music genre, and I guarantee you that it won't disappoint you, I r
