Album Review: Monophonics- It's Only Us

Image
It's Only Us is the fifth studio full-length album by American Soul group Monophonics, It was released on March 13, 2020.  Monophonics are most definitely a keystone, even coming from out in California,   A superb album by a band of strangers. Amazing; all the songs in this album are excellent. Classic vintage Motown  sound that blends heavy psychedelic soul and psych-rock, Monophonics have built a reputation over the past decade, It feels great when you would hear these songs isn’t wasn’t about greed, infidelity, money, or violence it was a beautiful sound that made you happy to be alive. also pulling influences from such acts as early Funkadelic, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield,  Sly, and The Family Stone. A soul record that smokes from start to finish is an interesting ride.   A simpler time. A time when music wasn't offensive or hateful. the messages of love, caring, surviving guilt, and anguish tap right into your soul.   while  concurre ntly  raising questions about the sta

Album Review: Lebanon Hanover- Sci-Fi Sky

Image
Sci-Fi Sky is the sixth studio full-length album by Darkwave band Lebanon Hanover, it was released on  October 20, 2020.  The Swiss Larissa Iceglass and the British William Maybelline founded Lebanon Hanover in 2010 after they met in Maybelline's hometown Sunderland,  England. where they formed the band,  the Goths sometimes have humor or, but rather black... It is then the story of a duo that in fragile balance has so far managed a perfect synthesis of many musical currents of the dark universes. Finally, two ravens will have marked these worlds forever with their greenhouses by the now-classic “Gallowdance” single, the anthem of despair of the decade 2010s.   There is always this little apprehension at the beginning of the cake that the cliché side takes precedence over the emotion. A listening, even fast, to the ten new tracks of this sixth album is nevertheless reassuring.  There is such beauty in sadness, and this album really captures the mood, leaving the listener to be subm

Album Review: Mary Lattimore- Silver Ladders

Image
Silver Ladders is the seventh studio full-length album by American harpist Mary Lattimore, it was released on October 9, 2020. This new album swelling her gentle  amiable  ambiance with a more  thunderous  sound.   Mary Lattimore is quietly one of the most creative artists at work in the fields of Music genres ambient, new age, and classical music. Her songs express  majestic   energy  of longing, wonder, curiosity, playfulness. What emerges throughout Silver Ladders is an ongoing exploration experience and also it  was recorded over nine days with the music producer, Slowdive's Neil Halstead. It's a really calming serene  energetic modern   masterpiece, and smooth harp playing  melody comes over the horizon to mesh  dynamic production, highly recommend to who loves this type of music,  lovely composition. One of my favorites from Mary's oeuvre. One of my albums of the year. The world needs more beauty like this, it can change your life physically.  I rate this album 10/10.

Album Review: Deftones - Ohms

Image
Ohms is the ninth studio full-length album by alternative metal band Deftones, it was released on September 25, 2020,  This album simply rocks. Like most of their material, it's almost a combination of past styles with a dash of new,  The chords are a treat to the ears, with Steph playing the custom 9 string guitar. The riffs are heavier, the bass is banging, and the drums are kicking like they haven't in a while, kicking it up a few notches from their last previous release.  People are right to point out that, in general, it doesn't sound like the "usual" Deftones, But why is that bad? You can hear Chino having fun, you can recognize Abe's style (that really comes out on a few tracks) Steph's shredding and Sergio is slapping some groove on it, they're just going about it a different way; a very, very good way. A fresh way.  The album is about resistance and balance, and that is apparent in every track, whether it be through the lyrics, the discipline

Album Review: Future Islands - As Long As You Are

Image
As Long As You Are is the sixth studio full-length album by synth-pop band Future Islands, It was released on October 9, 2020,  this album is excellent. Overall, the aesthetic is very similar to previous work; melancholy, hopeful, danceable.  But you have to admire the chances they take with their lyrics. Their unabashed romanticism sans cynicism creates a place in my music-loving heart that I hope you can also appreciate.  As Long as you are  will make you dance, rock out, and feel happy, but it also has the potential to render moments of deep introspection and pondering. This is music in its an increasingly rare form,   This is a special band and this is their best work.  Samuel T. Herring the lead singer  sings his passionate lyrics to passionate heroic sounding beautiful indie synth-pop music. He sings with an almost pleading emotion that is so clearly from the heart, I highly recomm end this record if you adore synthpop music and you might enjoy this new masterpiece. I rate this a

Album Review: Nation Of Language - Introduction, Presence

Image
Introduction, Presence is the debut full-length studio album by American synthpop Nation Of Language, It was released on May 22, 2020, Like all the greats that came before them, this new synthpop group reinvents synthesizer music for a modern revival audience, you can hear some peter hook bass work and also martin gore lyricism. if they continue with more high caliber quality releases, they will join their influence and become the blueprint for those that come after the synthpop genre.  whose mission is to remind us that the past the late 70s/early 80s synth is in fact the future. After a couple of stand-alone singles,   if you like retro-synth synthpop from 4 decades ago, you will love this modern reinterpretation of it. Thoughtful meaningful music lyrics blast my ears and also don't forget the synth,  sequenced-bass, and tight drum machine throughout this amazing record, well-produced balanced  compositions  that can  force   introversion  and  heartfelt  longing but also charism
